Thank you for finding my website, and determining whether to purchase my wife's novel, "The Fattest Woman in Ireland." When the novel failed to be picked up by a major publisher, Pat recorded a CD of herself reading it for me and some close friends.

Use the players below to hear Pat reading four sections of the book in her own Irish brogue. You can read a summary for each passage below, and then listen to each excerpt individually, or listen to all four excerpts at once here:

Passage 1:

The novel is set in County Wicklow, Ireland, in a town named Avoca, and Siobhan, the main character has a huge weight problem. Her mother died when she was born... and she is being raised by her grandmother, her dad and her brothers.

Passage 2:

Nuns gave she and her fellow students at her school lessons on sexuality in classes... and of course, this led to all sorts of whispered and loud comments between the students and nuns. Here the Catholic gals have many entertaining discussions with the Nuns regarding becoming women.

Passage 3:

Siobhan accompanies her college friends on an adventure into the larger city... and has an unforgettable and horrifying experience trying to use a public pay toilet.

Passage 4:

Siobhan discusses letters she receives when she becomes queen of the local town festival...
