Patricia very much wanted to see breast cancer stamped out, since this disease killed so many talented women, young and old. Over the years, with money from her poetry readings, Pat raised over $3,000 for breast cancer research.

As the husband who deeply misses her, I plan to donate 100% of the remaining proceeds from the sales of 'The Fattest Woman in Ireland' to breast cancer research, specifically to the research of the genetic factors for why some women are predisposed to breast cancer while others are not. Pat was very much interested in how for some women breast cancer is limited to one tumor and then in other cases the breast cancer spreads. That is why this research is so ideal for her book to help fund.

I will be sending the proceeds from the book to the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics directed by Kent Hunter, PhD, at the Cancer Center for Research in Bethesda, Maryland. To learn more about him and his work, see his Web site:

If you want to read a good novel and at the same time help stamp out the breast cancer that killed my wife, you can.

Please help me to raise money for the eventual cure for breast cancer!

Thank you,

Richard Armstrong, May 2009

As of today, August 4, 2009, Richard has donated $800 to help Dr. Hunter's research. Help him donate more by buying Pat's book.

If you are interested in donating funds directly to Dr. Hunter's laboratory, you will need to state the funds are to be dedicated to: "the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics directed by Kent Hunter, PhD."
